Surprise summer

We've been surprised with the most amazing weather the past few days!! And as everyone in this part of Norway know, u never know how many days like these we get. So we seem to drop everything and spend most days outside, with braais(bbq), fruit, garden work and friends:)

As every year I get burnt...I do use sunscreen but I always end up burnt. Must be my pale Scandinavian skin!

Junior got a new cup the other day. Not just any cup, it's a SLUSH MAKER!!! We tried it with a fruity soda and it worked! It's so easy and yummy, especially on hot days so if u want one let me know and I'll tell u where it's from:) yum yum!

Junior was talking about catching a shark as we arrived at the fishing spot;) he had a blast never the less

Really can't complain on days like these! BEAUTIFUL:)

Happy Mother's Day

I want to wish all mothers out there a happy Mother's Day:)

In Norway we can't wait all until May so we celebrate in February

February or May, there is no greater love than the one a mother feels for her child. Never did I ever know watching my children could bring tears to my eyes for feeling so proud! And who would have thought I could get up at 4am to change messy nappies. I cook dinner every day even tho I know u only eat it once in a blue moon. I do it cause I'm a mom and I wouldn't change it for the world! :)

South African curry ala Iziko

Having spent some time in South Africa I discovered a whole new universe of food! I have tasted some yummy, interesting and very different things I never thought I would. Squid, snails, mussels, oysters, raw fish, biltong, ostrich, springbok and oxtail just to mention some.

I dont make those things on a regular basis at home, but one thing I do make is CURRY. So today ended up being a curry day. Completely unplanned too! I didnt have any idea of what I could possibly scrape together and call a dinner. The fridge was so empty there was en echo in it! I went to put something in the freezer when I saw some frozen chicken, I quickly grabbed it and knew I had what I needed for a curry.

I used an onion, lots of chopped garlic, diced potatoes and carrots, lots of yummy flavourful spices, coconut milk and spring onions.

While the curry was bubbling away leaving the house to smell delishious I cooked rice and made a greek salad (tomato, red onion and feta) I put shredded coconut in a bowl and chopped bananas in another. Hubby likes chutney with his curry so that was the only thing I was missing so he picked it up on his way from work. By the time he arrived the table was all set and we could all just sit down and enjoy:)

Seeing these photos makes me want to go and get some more, YUM!

I always sprinkle shredded coconut over and have a few slices of banana with my curry:)

Baby food

Since baby brother started having his first solids I've been making it from scratch. First it was really just a little taster and as he grew fonder of it I increased the portions.

It's so easy and much better than all the tomato based jars u get in the shops. And also a lot cheaper if u want to save a few bucks. (Straight in the holiday jar!!! South African summer 2014)

It's easy so give it a try!
Steam ur chosen veggies, blend until smoooooth. I mix in a little bit of extra virgin olive oil. I leave food for two days in the fridge and freeze the rest. I also make prune and apricot pudding for extra iron in his diet. Sometimes I mix it in the porridge and other times he eats it as a dessert.

I'm due to make another batch of dinners so when I saw these amazing sweet potatoes in the shop I knew they had to come home with me!! I bought a few so I can roast some as a side for tomorrow's dinner. they're so yummy and apparently super healthy so that's what I would call a WIN WIN situation!

Haha they look a bit funny photographed like that, but I know they will be super delish

As u can see by the small picture I only used about half of the larger sweet potato for the baby food. The rest we roasted and had with our dinner.
So easy and so delicious!

Doesn't that picture make u want to run to the shops for sweet potatoes??!! I sprinkled them with Egyptian dukkah, one of my fav spices!!! :)

Tapas till we drop!

In the last post I wrote about the tapas evening I was hosting.
The evening went well and I enjoyed myself, I hope the guests did too. One of the girls got some very disturbing news in the middle of it all so naturally the conversation changed to that subject for the last half. We all got very involved and worked up for her case! Nice to see such a supportive group:) She needed to blow off some steam so some if the girls went to the local watering hole with her;)

Then there was the FOOD!!
The food was delicious!!! We had so much food so I was quite surprised that there was so little to pack away!!! I wanted to take lots if photos but I must confess, I forgot!! In fact I didn't take a single shot of anything!!! I took two while I was setting the table earlier in the day but that's it.

Plates we used. Perfect size for all the goodies! Side plates for salad, fruit and olives

Still no cutlery or napkins but it gives u an idea. I was still busy setting the table at this point.

I enjoyed this so much I'm already wanting to host another evening! :)

Stole this from my friends Instagram. At least she thought about getting some photos:) makes me hungry just looking at the food again!!!

It's a tapas party:))

Haha haven't we all experienced this at one point?!??
Well I can promise u right now that if I say sorry for the mess, I can assure u my house IS a MESS.

Well well, with two kids I don't mind a little mess as long as it doesn't get out of hand:)

Tonight I'm having a tapas evening so I need to go to the shop to pick up a few ingredients. All the girls are bringing a few tapas dishes each. I'm making falafels, deviled eggs and a Greek salad YUUUUM!

Here's some inspiration, enjoy

Philadelphia, salmon and poppy seeds looks DEVINE!

There will be drinks and wine as it is a Saturday;)

Snuggle buddies

They don't get much cuter than these!

Busy times at work with new stock arriving. Always exciting popping in there for a look.

Disse søtingene sitter og venter på nye eiere. Hvem blir de heldige?

Du finner dem her, men ikke si det til noen. Kanskje får vi beholde dem på butikken litt lengre da;)

Tattoo

So lately one of my friends got a new tattoo. She has a few already and this time it was her shoulder that got inked. The tattoo turned out so NICE and now I can't stop thinking that maybe I should get one.... I'm not jumping into the first chair to get tattooed so for now I'm just looking.

Maybe not for me, but I like it!

If u travel a lot this is a great idea. U simply colour inn the countries u've visited:) great idea
